A new book hit the shelves earlier this month and it was a winner with my mother-in-law The Queen Bee (visit here HERE at her site). Here is the scoop and what the Bee's buzz was...
Product Description
Forced together on a trip from Manhattan to Rhode Island, a father and son attempt to renew their bond over lobster, cigarettes, and a buried secret. A pure-hearted artist finds his devotion cruelly tested, while his true love tries to repent for the biggest mistake of her life. Unwittingly thrust into an open marriage, a man struggles to reconnect with his newly devout son. And in the book's daring first story, an arrogant businessman begins a forbidden affair during the High Holidays.Written in clear, crystalline prose, The Book of Life comprises seven stunning tales about faith, family, grief, love, temptation, and redemption that signal the arrival of a bold and exciting new writer.
I am lucky, yet again, that my daughter-in-law Kristin had a good book for me. I don't think I would have picked this one up by myself. Maybe. This is a book of short stories by an author that I have not read before. I jumped right into the first story and all I can say is wow. "In the Book of Life" is the tale of an older Jewish businessman, seemingly with everything going for him. Longtime friend as a business partner, longtime marriage, grown kids. So you tell me...why have an affair with the daughter of your business partner? And that's not the only surprise in this story.
"Catherine & Henry" is the story of a love affair that is put to the "test". She tests his fidelity by putting a young, beautiful model right under his nose. Henry failed the test...but so did Catherine.
It is funny that after I read two stories, I thought, hmm...these are stories about life...what is the title of this book? Flip to cover, ah yes ! The Book of Life.
Highly recommended.
