I can't remember the very first nursery rhyme I learned, but I do know I learned them at a very young age. I can recall learning them at home with my mom, at church and of course at school! Nursery rhymes help us learn to read at a young age because "when preschoolers read, recite, sing or clap along to rhymes, they develop a feel for the sounds and structures of language, the first step in becoming successful readers."
My daughters, like every other child, loves nursery rhymes and was ecstatic when they received the Mother Goose Club Super Pack! The Super Pack is filled with the Nursery Rhyme Singing Time DVD, CD Vol. 1, CD Vol. 2, a Coloring book and Stickers!
I can't tell you how much my kids LOVE the Nursery Rhyme Singing Time DVD, they watch it every morning, and I am so amazed at how much they have learned already. The nursery rhymes on the dvd are a lot of fun and they really clarify which words rhyme during each one! It's a fantastic learning tool! I also really like how they mix live-action with cartoons, it really keeps my girls attention.
I have the two CDs in the car, so when we're not home, they are still learning while we drive. My daughter begs my hubby to play it every time we go out, and we've found ourselves singing along to the nursery rhymes that we learned when we were little.

“I Had a Little Nut Tree” is believed to have first been published in 1797 in “Newest Christmas Box.” James Orchard Halliwell claimed the rhyme refers to Juana of Castile, who visited the court of Henry VII in 1506. Having both been widowed, Juana and Henry VII were pressured to marry each other; however, the marriage never happened. Another theory claims the rhyme celebrates Queen Catherine of Aragon, King Henry VIII’s first wife and Juana’s sister. Juana and Catherine were daughters of Ferdinand and Isabella, the Spanish monarchs who commissioned Christopher Columbus’ voyage to the New World.
